CONSIDER this - how many stores are successful enough to have survived for over 100 years, a full century!?
In our world today, it seems like stores pop up and are gone in a week, and mega malls and chain stores that looks like hundreds of other identical clones dot the landscape. Finding any buildings, much less a business, that is 102 years old is difficult in many places outside of historic areas. Sears & Roebuck opened their first store in 1925 having been a catalog company prior to then. Sam Walton began Wal-Mart in 1962. Berdine's had been successfully in business for 54 years by
that time.
5 and Dime stores were once a cornerstone of American small towns and cities. Woolworth's, W.T. Grant, J.J. Newberry’s, McCrory’s, Kresge, Ben Franklin Stores and so the list goes- none made it to the century mark as a 5 & Dime.
At Berdine's 5 & Dime, we are pleased and proud to celebrate another year in our long history of providing the same shopping experience that your parents, grandparents, and great grandparents knew.
Rarely does anything last beyond 100 years. We hope you can come visit us and share our experience. See you in Harrisville, West Virginia!
